Dr. Crace grew up in the rural Appalachian mountain range of southeastern Kentucky. He knew from an early age that medicine was his calling. With the good fortune of having the local general surgeon as a family friend he was inspired to pursue a career in surgery. Dr. Crace attended Georgetown College on both an academic and athletic (Football) scholarship and earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. He was then awarded a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Barry University in Miami, Florida. He was then accepted into, both, the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky Colleges of Medicine. He chose the latter and was awarded his doctorate in Medicine in 2003.
Dr. Crace was then chosen amongst numerous applicants for a competitive five-year general surgery residency position at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was bestowed with the honor of Chief resident in his final year of residency. Dr. Crace scored in the 90th percentile on his exit examinations in his final two years of residency in comparison to his peers all across the country. He then completed his board certification in general surgery which requires passing a written and oral examination. He then chose to enter private practice in his hometown of Eastern Kentucky.
From 2008 through the spring of 2023 Dr. Crace practiced general surgery in rural Appalachia, central Louisiana, and for the final five years in the low-country area of South Carolina. His practice has ranged from large regional referral hospitals to small, rural critical access facilities. He has served in numerous academic and leadership roles. He was an associate professor of surgery at both the University of Louisville and the University of Pikeville. He also served as chief of surgery at every hospital he was employed at. While Dr. Crace has and always will remain passionate about general surgery, the desire for a better quality of life and appeal to aesthetics lead him to a career change.
After the covid pandemic, many physicians felt that they were at a crossroads in their career. Similarly, Dr. Crace felt that this was the right time in his career to pursue something that he was passionate about as well as produce a better quality of life for his family. Dr. Crace has been married to his wife Amy over twenty years and is the proud father of three children; Charles (17), Abigale (16), and Jackson (14). Thus, after numerous discussions with the family and many hours and days of prayer, Dr. Crace decided to take a leap of faith and pursue study in the art of cosmetic surgery. He has spent the last two years training and then working at one of the most prestigious and busiest cosmetic surgery centers in Louisiana. He was also able to earn his MBA degree and was a summa cum laude graduate of Louisiana State University. He now returns full time to the low-country area of South Carolina to offer a wide range of cosmetic body procedures. Dr. Crace is passionate about restoring his patient’s self-esteem by erasing the scars of time, motherhood, and busy lifestyles. As he says, “All of my patients are beautiful, but sometimes we need to show them that again.” Dr. Crace looks forward to meeting new clients and is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to serve as their guide on this journey.
